Christy Camba

Artist in Residence

Christy, a Venezuelan flutist, began her musical journey early, joining The Venezuelan System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs. She studied at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory and the National Experimental University of the Arts, both in Venezuela. She has studied with international professors like Sandrine Tilly, Pedro Eustache, Philippe Bernold, John Bailey, Sebastian Jacot, and Francesca Canalli.

A former member of the Caracas Symphony Orchestra, Christy toured the US, Europe, and Asia, performing in venues such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Musikverein in Vienna, and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. She has worked with renowned conductors like Gustavo Dudamel, Zung Kwak, Paolo Bortolameoli and Christian Vásquez, among others. Christy, is also a former member of Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and Juan José Landaeta symphony Orchestra in the city of Caracas.

As a soloist, Christy has performed concertos in Venezuela and has extensive chamber music experience. She has been part of the Latin American Music Festival in Caracas, premiering new works.

She has also taught children and young people through El Sistema in Venezuela. Currently, she teaches flute private lessons, and also works in the Oakland Unified School District under the Oakland Symphony’s MUSE program. She also coaches for the Berkeley Youth Orchestra.
